Suzanne Santo lets it fly on her new single “Fall For That,” a bluesy ripper that gets its sizzle not just from her dynamic vocals but from a dirty, undulating guitar line from Gary Clark Jr.

It’s the first single from the Ohio native since her Butch Walker-produced album “Ruby Red” in 2017. A triple threat on fiddle, banjo and guitar, Santo emerged as one-half of the roots duo HoneyHoney, who have released three albums. She’s toured with Hozier and Walker, and for her new single— the first from a full-length arriving before the end of the year– she teamed up with Grammy-winning producer-engineer John Spiker (Beck, Steve Earle).

On “Fall For That,” she digs deep to sing about the push and pull between needing human connection and solitude, chaos and calm. “This tune comes from a deep need to find and understand the truth in the chaotic world around us and to represent myself from an honest place of my own volition,” she told Relix, where the song premiered. “Often I feel clotheslined by the thoughts and agendas of others/the media and feel confused by what beliefs and thoughts are accurately my own.”

She’s releasing the tune on her own Soozanto Records. “I’ve had projects blow up in my face and labels break my heart over the years, and I wasn’t about to let that happen again,” she says. “It can be scary to go it alone, but I’ve found so much strength and freedom in carving my own path.”

Santo plays a full-band, live-streamed set tonight at 6 from the Hotel Café.
