WARBLY JETS, “Low Resolution”

Samuel Shea and Julien O’neill signaled a new direction for Warbly Jets when they released the single “NASA” last November. “Low Resolution” is the follow-up from the swaggering duo, a tune that’s about 90% attitude and 10% Chris Greatti’s guitar solo. John Frost directs the Spike Jonze-inspired video, which is kind of a tour de L.A. Plus: “One of my favorite music videos of all time is the video for ‘Drop’ by the Pharcyde,” Shea says. “It’s all performed in reverse and then flipped back to sync with the song in a really cool and unnatural way, which was extremely cutting edge to me when I first saw it as a kid. I always assumed it was shot in lower Manhattan or something, but recently realized it was shot in L.A. in the alleyway at St. Vincent Court — which is exactly where [Warbly Jets’ studio] Ultrasound is. Because of that, I knew we had to shoot something there to pay homage to that video.”

HEY, KING!, “Road Rage”

The bluesy barb “Road Rage” is the latest single from the Ben Harper-produced debut album from Natalie London and Taylor Plecity, “Hey, King!” (out April 2). London and Plecity enlisted 21 women to film themselves lip-syncing the song, including TikTok star Lauren Burch, “The Original Bad Girl of Comedy” Luenell, Brooke Marham (“In The Dark”), Cheryl Texiera (“Girl Meets World”), Rachel True (“The Craft”) and Debra Wilson (“Mad TV”). “We wanted this to be every woman’s song because we all have stories of harassment and stories of our resilience,” London says. “We had originally planned to include ourselves playing/singing the track, but after seeing the incredible performances from our collaborators, we decided to let them tell the story.” See also: “Beautiful” and the duo’s “Be Still” EP.

LEFT FIELD MESSIAH, “Young Libertine”

“Don’t throw me out like November’s Vice Magazine,” Steve Bays sings on the third single from Left Field Messiah, whose debut album “In Praise of Bombast” is out July 23. The trio — Bays (Hot Hot Heat), Jeremy Ruzumna (Fitz & the Tantrums) and Erik Janson (ex-Wildling) — has a lot of miles and a lot of styles under their respective belts, and this songs fits in with the “wavy” soul and alt-pop favored by contemporary bedroom popsters. Director Johnny Jansen’s video gets as psychedelic as the single. (See LFM’s first two singles here.)
